It's been almost an entire month since they started their journey. Albeit somewhat irritated, Seth never questioned the distance as they both kept walking through forest and pathways. Farren was grateful for his compliance but with every motion of trust the other showed, it only seemed to weight more on his conscience. To his surprise, the trip seemed to work as a way to tie loose ends. By the second week, Seth opened up more and actually carried a conversation with him. Farren learned what the prince did in the woods, and was intrigued to learn he carried hobbies. To think Seth had a knack for woodcarving...
'Traitor Traitor Traitor' The title echoed in his mind every night he sedated Seth, there was no way around it. He could not bring himself to disobey his majesties and besides...it was HIS fault this was to be done. Now here they were, a clearing miles away from any place of civilization. Here is where he would give him the serum.
Here is where he would lose his trust for good....
"Farren why did we stop?" Seth questioned, shifting the grain sack that rested on his shoulder into a more comfortable position. The other kept quiet, taking a deep breath and letting his luggage drop from his arms. "Farren!" Seth exclaimed as he walked over the sacks and nudged them with the tip of his boot. "Still intact, what's the matter with you?" He questioned, his voice holding annoyance over the others carelessness.
Farren simply chuckled as he turned to the other, an empty smile plastered on his face. " I just thought we could use a small break, the soles of my boots have a hole in them." A perfect lie, no hint of hesitation and the result was a simple nod from the other. It killed him but he supposed this is what he deserved; this was the consequences for being so careless and bringing his one and only friend under the line of that horrid project. He reached for the bottles that were tied onto his belt, his claws grazed the bottle that mimicked the color of blood, the blood that was laced with heavy sedatives. He paused and grabbed the glass orb. "Here , this is the last one Seth."
'The last one you'll need'
"I think I'll save that until night falls, for some reason I get so tired when I drink it."
'That's because I drugged it'
"Oh really?" The other inquired, feigning surprise. "Maybe it's your body adjusting to a regular amount each day. You've been less irritated right? Either way, drink it now. We won't be stopping to sleep tonight."
The other shrugged and lowered the sacks next to a boulder; he held up an open hand as he replied. "Perhaps, although after this trip I will cut back to once a week. Give it here then, I'm assuming we will arrive sometime during the night?"
Farren tossed the bottle to him, which he caught with ease and popped the top open with one swift motion. Seth tilted his head back and guzzled the goat's blood in mere seconds. "Y-Yes, we will be there by night. It's such a pain that we have to travel so far right?" He joked, his hand closing around the only bottle left hanging from the leather belt, the serum. Seth nodded as he wiped at the crimson liquid that stained his lips. "It's so odd, why would the only marketplace available would be so far away? Usually, our traders return in a week or...in a week or..." He paused, rubbing his temple as his legs began to shake.
"Something wrong Seth?" He asked, his voice almost cracking as he undid the string that tied the bottle.
"Y-Yeah I....damnit..." Seth uttered as his legs gave out and he fell back. It was only then did he realize what was happening. "This is drugged...!" He growled weakly as he tried to sit up.
"It is, and it's for the best Seth. I can't have you struggling you know." Now wasn't the time to break, he had to go through with it. Serum in hand, he walked over to the heavily drugged prince that now glared fiercely at him.
"What is that Farren?!" He managed to exclaim as his body slowly gave out on him, the sedative was working faster than usual.
"I can't tell you, I'm sorry Seth. I-I didn't want to do this, please believe me. The last thing I wanted to do w-"
"GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME!!"
"For your sake, I hope this doesn't work. I am so sorry Seth..." Farren said nothing else as he dropped to his knees and reached over to keep Seth's head up. He was so neatly gone and yet he could feel the hate burned into his eyes. There was no way he would ever be forgiven. Quite frankly, he didn't want to be forgiven.
He wanted to die.
As Farren lifted his head by the neck and tipped the bottle down his mouth, he whispered his final request. His final wish, if he even deserved it.
" If this works Seth, just kill me...."
